Meeting Information

The first Joint Meeting of the American Mathematical Society and the Sociedad de Matemática de Chile will be held at the Universidad de la Frontera in Pucón, from Wednesday 15 - Saturday 18 December, 2010.

All Special Sessions will take place at the Pucón site of Universidad de La Frontera; the Invited Addresses, Panel discussions and social events will be held at Gran Hotel Pucón. Both buildings are located around Pucón´s main square.

Pucón is one of the most important tourist attractions of southern Chile. This destination is located some 760 Km (475 miles) South of Santiago. The town is in a region highly attractive for its luxurious vegetation, large valleys, forests, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, thermal centers, volcanoes and national parks, all of which invite the visitor to revive the experience and history of both the native villages and the Spanish Conquest.

Visa Information: All visitors to Chile must have a valid passport.

Arriving at the Airport Upon arrival in Santiago Airport, USA, Australia, Canada and Mexico citizens must pay a reciprocity tax before proceeding to immigration control; for USA citizens this tax is US$ 131. Credit cards are accepted; this tax payment is valid for repeated entries into Chile until your passport expires.

The following products should not be brought into Chile as a fine will be charged: milk products, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and dried fruits, plants and seeds. Bringing these products into Chile is seen as a very serious offence, so please make sure you eat or dispose of these products before arriving at the airport.

Most people will be immediately continuing their flight to Temuco airport. Pucón is about 100km away; buses, taxis and shuttle vans run often between both cities.

The meeting organization will offer shuttle vans travelling from Temuco airport to Pucón, about 100km away, and from Pucón to Temuco airport, on dates and times to be announced. Participants should indicate their interest during registration.
