First Joint Meeting

American Mathematical Society
Sociedad de Matemática de Chile

December 15 to 18, 2010
Pucón, Chile

Welcome

Since its foundation in the seventies, the Sociedad de Matemática de Chile (SOMACHI) has promoted the organization of periodic national and international meetings. At present, it organizes its annual meeting in Chile's central region, and sponsors southern and northern regional annual meetings, which in particular attract collaborators and students from the Andes region. Somachi also organizes an International Simposio every four years, and sponsors several specific area meetings organized in Chile, which reflect the diversity of research groups and their international collaborators.

Considering the existing strong ties between the Chilean and the American mathematical communities, Sociedad de Matemática de Chile and American Mathematical Society have agreed to organize their first Joint Meeting in December, 2010.

The objectives of this meeting are to provide additional research and intellectual stimuli to young researchers and graduate students, and offer new opportunities for broadening research contacts to mathematicians from both sides.

We see this event as our main contribution to Chile's bicentennial celebration.

The scientific program includes plenary talks of general interest and focused Special Sessions featuring current research in specific areas. Also, there will be ample time for both formal and informal discussions.

The first Joint Meeting of the American Mathematical Society and the Sociedad de Matemática de Chile will be held at the Universidad de la Frontera in Pucón, an attractive venue in southern Chile, from Wednesday 15 - Saturday 18 December, 2010.
